Silas Israel (Tremont, Ill./Tremont) struck out 10 over six one-hit innings as the Carl Sandburg College baseball team swept an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader at Kishwaukee on Saturday.
The Chargers’ doubleheader scheduled for Sunday at Illinois Valley was canceled because of unplayable conditions.

Sandburg got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning that was highlighted by a double from Abe Collins (Morton, Ill./Morton), a two-bagger by Ashton Johnson (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) and a Hunter Darst (Avon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) triple.
Sandburg Standout
Israel allowed only an unearned run over six dazzling innings. He retired the first nine batters he faced, and the Kougars’ only hit of the game was a leadoff single in the sixth. He fanned 10, walked one and threw 62 of his 83 pitches for strikes. Jeron Conner (Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame) struck out two in a perfect seventh to finish off the one-hitter.
